Previous month: Links For June 2025
Projects
- Last time I created Categories of AI Research Ideas. In the beginning of July I tried to automate it and wrote a guide on NeoBERT Fine-Tuning
- I discovered an open-sourced game openfront.io and played it for 2 days in a row. I kept losing, so I wanted to build a reinforcement learning agent to play instead. It was too slow to watch a game, with a main bottleneck being JS Canvas rendering, so I started rewriting it in WebGL. However, the maintainers said it needs to be done after planning and resource allocation đ
- I also signed up for an open sourced AI research summer project, reach out if you want to learn more or contribute!
Links
- A review about Alpha School, a new approach of education with bribes
- A website that shows when a satellite passes above your area
- German court rules Meta tracking technology violates European privacy laws. Looks like anyone can submit a claim to court and get 5k euros. Reach out to me if you want to brainstorm how!
- An article thatâs investigating important topics with laziness, impatience, hubris and self-preservation.
- Richard Feynmanâs Letter on What Problems to Solve, and another longer post about his work on the connection machine
- Another very good review on Trance. I really liked the part about spirit possessions and hypnosis
- Comment: In Los Angeles, crime on the Metro public transportation system has fallen by almost 70% in the three months since the LAPD was booted off the job and replaced byâŠsecurity guards. đ€
- When a couple has a child, everyone knows the womanâs career suffers more than the manâs. But did you know that this effect comes almost entirely from daughters? (maternal earnings penalty 3% for a son, 26% for a daughter) Commenters suggest that fathers spend more time with sons and vice versa, partly counterbalancing the overall tendency for mothers to spend more time with children. - Cate Hall on her experience taking testosterone: âWhen I played poker professionally, I was a staunch advocate for the position that there are few women at the top of the game for reasons that are primarily sociological: women arenât encouraged to learn (96% of serious players are male); the environment is unwelcoming to them (see âThe Royal Flush Girlsâ); and they arenât invited to join the study groups that are critical for cracking into the elite tier ⊠And yet. In the earliest weeks of testosterone therapy, when I really started to feel it kicking in, one of my first thoughts was: âI would have been so much better at poker if Iâd had this.ââ
- Somehow I havenât heard any great podcast episodes this month, and I cleared my backlog already. Please recommend something to listen during commute!
